Circuit Zandvoort presents a rock solid calendar for 2020, where all fans of exciting motorsport can enjoy to the fullest. The annual programme also offers a nice selection of family activities and focuses on entertainment and lifestyle.
Return of Formula 1 at a legendary location
The absolute highlight of the 2020 season will undoubtedly be the return of Formula 1 at Circuit Zandvoort. 35 years after the last F1 race, the iconic dune circuit will host the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix on May 1, 2 and 3, 2020. The weekend promises to be a special experience from start to finish, with in addition to an exciting racing program (with the FIA Formula 2 Championship, FIA Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup in action), special performances and activities, which will make the Dutch GP weekend the ultimate racing festival. More information about this great weekend can be found at www.dutchgp.com.
The circuit of Zandvoort is not only praised for its challenging circuit, but also for its special history. During the Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort (Friday 4 – Sunday 6 September) visitors make a trip back in time with a richly filled three-day program. For example, visitors will be treated to races with historic Formula 1 cars, but also races with historic GT’s, touringcars and youngtimers. The popular FIA Historic Formula 3 European Cup will also be there, as will one of the major public favourites: the Historic Formula 2. New to this 9th edition of the Historic Grand Prix is the arrival of the Aston Martin Masters Endurance Legends with legendary LMP prototypes and GT’s that took part in Le Mans and related championships such as the ELMS and ALMS from 1990 to 2015. These extremely fast machines of recent history make the link with the modern present.
Supercars compete for victory on renewed track
The winter of 2019-2020 will be used at Circuit Zandvoort to renew the circuit to the official FIA Grade 1 license. Although the layout will remain almost unchanged, the circuit will be modified on several points. Not only does this seem to provide more spectacle for the Dutch Grand Prix, but also for the impressive GT3 supercars of the GT World Challenge Europe (Friday 26th – Sunday 28th June) this upgrade promises to provide extra challenges. This leading championship will see supercars such as the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Audi R8, Bentley Continental, Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 488 GT3 and Mercedes-AMG GT3 compete against each other. The GT4 European Series will also be part of the weekend, as will the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, Formula Renault Eurocup and the Mazda MX-5 Cup.
A popular event is the ADAC GT Masters weekend (Friday 21 to Sunday 23 August). The strongest national championship of GT racing will be in action: the ADAC GT Masters, with almost 30 GT3 supercars. In addition, the other series from the program, including the ADAC TCR Germany, ADAC Formula 4 and ADAC GT4 Germany, offer plenty of action on the track. The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Germany’s fastest manufacturer’s cup, completes the programme.
Lifestyle and theme events
For lovers of British cars and other impressive ‘premium cars’, the calendar offers the weekend of 4 and 5 July with the British Race Festival. A combined programme of races and ‘free riding’ sessions will provide plenty of entertainment on the track, while various single make clubs will be on display in the paddocks and various stalls and exhibitors can be visited.
Other popular lifestyle and theme events, including AutoMaxx Streetpower, American Sunday, Historic Zandvoort Trophy and RPM Live are also part of the 2020 programme, as is the flashy Supercar Sunday.
The versatility of Circuit Zandvoort as an event location will also be reflected in a number of non-motorsport activities in 2020, including the Zandvoort Circuit Run (Sunday 29 March) and Cycling Zandvoort (Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 June).
